"NIGHT OF THE BAT In the year 2050 AD post apocalyptic New York City is protected by the Batman; not playboy millionaire Bruce Wayne, who is assumed to have died long ago, but Leonard Cohen, PhD, an auburn haired, world class gymnast with a doctorate degree in Criminology. Cohens origin, as told in this issue, begins with Cohen, a world class collegiate athlete and doctorial candidate traveling to the abandoned and decrepit Wayne Manor to investigate his thesis that Bruce Wayne was the legendary Batman. Cohen discovers the Batcave and is safely underground when the first wave of nuclear warheads struck the North Eastern United States. Cohens mother and politician father are both outspoken activists for gun control and are shot dead by a hate group called the National Reconstruction Alliance. As a result of their death, Cohen wages war on crime and dons the guise of Batman to capitalize on the intimidation and fear created in the minds of criminals by the original Batman. Batman vowed to rid NYC of all firearms. This issue establishes that Batman has his hand tightly around the throat of crime in NYC with very little finding its way past his steely grip. A group of nefarious businessmen, aka the Combine, develop giant robot guardians and try to sell them to the politicians of NYC for protection. The robots are unarmed because Batman keeps intercepting their weapon shipments. Some of the politicians are against the idea and believe that Batman is their protector. The businessmen convince the politicians that Batman is detrimental to the welfare of the city and, more importantly, their political power. The politicians agree to purchase the robots, if the businessman can get rid of Batman. Desperate to terminate the Batman, the businessmen recruit the infamous gunslinger Jonah Hex to kill him. Despite being new to this time and place, Hex has already established a formidable reputation as a hired gun. The businessmen fear that Hex might not accept the job, if he knew their true intentions, so they fabricate evidence and trick Hex into believing that Batman tortured and killed his beloved Stiletta. Hex accepts the job and travels to NYC to seek revenge. With two revolvers strapped around his waist, he immediately draws the attention of the Batman, whose number one rule is, No guns in New York City! Hex and Batman have a good old fashioned rooftop slugfest, which culminates into the two of them going over the edge and plummeting to almost certain death. Note: There is a 95 cent Canadian price variant."
